More about the stud
A mere 30-minute drive from the airport, at the foot of the second-largest granite outcrop in the world, you will find Elkasun Arabians. Nestled between the vineyards of the famous Paarl Wine Route, also called the ‘Red Route’ for its legendary red wines, Elkasun Arabians paints a quaint picture on a balmy summer’s night in one of the most beautiful places in Southern Africa.
Elkasun Arabians is the kind of place you would expect to find yourself captivated by not only the natural beauty, but also the grace of the Arabian horse's presence.
The owner of Elkasun Arabians, Willie Brown, started an Arabian horse breeding program in 1996. Willie also acts as Manager, and has been a professional horseman for over ten years, garnering over twelve National Championship titles during this period. He met world famous American breeder & trainer, Michael Byatt, in 2002 at his farm in Houston, Texas and they immediately developed a friendship through their shared passion for Arabian horses.
At first, Elkasun Arabians' breeding program was mainly influenced by American breeding, but later developed in such a way that Spanish, Egyptian & Polish blood was incorporated to elevate this breeding program, in able to reach new frontiers. Willie's nick for genetics played a huge roll in the Stud's success, as only the best pedigrees were combined to create an even better one in generations to come.
As of 2013, Willie has also been invited to judge Arabian Horse Shows in Europe and in the Middle East on numerous occasions. The experience he has gained whilst judging has broadened his knowledge in many ways and helps him to stay updated on current breeding trends in Europe, which gives Elkasun Arabians' breeding program a competitive edge.
